Highlights From Australia
Adelaide Film Festival has always been renowned for supporting and celebrating Australian cinema, and this year the tradition continues with a program including 53 Australian shorts, features and interactive projects (including 34 South Australian projects).
The 2013 Festival will screen new work from Australian directors Rolf de Heer, Warwick Thornton, John Curran, Sophie Hyde, Eddie Martin, Sophia Turkiewicz, Wayne Blair and Rowan Woods. Once My Mother, Sons and Mothers, The Broken Shore, The Vasectomist, One-Eyed Girl, The Dead Speak Back, Charlie's Country, 52 Tuesdays, All This Mayhem and more will enjoy their world premieres at this year's Festival. Once My Mother, from director Sophia Turkiewicz, is a story of survival and forgiveness, explored through a troubled mother and daughter relationship. WORLD PREMIERE.
Sons and Mothers, from director Christopher Houghton this feature documentary is an intimate portrait of a group of marginalized men in Adelaide. Led by theatre director Alirio Zavarce, they create a theatrical love letter to one of the most important women in their lives – their mother. WORLD PREMIERE.
The Broken Shore, directed by Rowan Woods and based on best seller of world renowned Australian crime writer Peter Temple. This thriller stars Dan Hany, Claudia Karvan, Erik Thomson, Robyn Nevin and Dan Wyllie. WORLD PREMIERE.
The Vasectomist follows Dr Doug Stein, a urologist from Florida on a mission to save the planet by “spreading the gospel of vasectomy”. Along filmmaker Jonathan Stack and co- director Saralena Weinfield, Dr Stein travelled the world in his quest, coming up against conservatives and religious groups, crossing cultural and political taboos. WORLD PREMIERE.
One-Eyed Girl, from Adelaide director Nick Matthews, starring Mark Leonard Winter as a 30-something psychiatrist haunted by the death of a former patient. WORLD PREMIERE.
The Dead Speak Back, from director Jason Sweeney. A journey through a surreal world of the missing and departed, as a woman follows in the footsteps of a missing boy who might never be found. WORLD PREMIERE.
