SUNDANCE INSTITUTE AND ADELAIDE FILM FESTIVAL TO COLLABORATE
Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund today announced that it will collaborate with Sundance Institute’s New Frontier program to identify potential opportunities for Australian artists and filmmakers to present new media work at future editions of the Sundance Film Festival.
New Frontier Curator and Co-Director, Shari Frilot, will be a special guest at NET-WORK-PLAY in Adelaide this month and will be working with Amanda Duthie, Director, Adelaide Film Festival at the event to discover Australian projects for presentation at future New Frontier and Adelaide Film Festival events.
New Frontier at Sundance Institute is a dynamic initiative created to identify and foster independent artists working at the convergence of film, art, media, live performance, music and technology.
Since 2007, the New Frontier exhibition at the Sundance Film Festival has provided the highest level of curation in the emerging field, incorporating fiction, non-fiction and hybrid projects to showcase transmedia storytelling, multi-media installations, performances and films. It has a long presentation association of Australian work including Lynette Wallworth’s Evolution of Fearlessness and Coral: Rekindling Venus; Matthew Bate’s Shut Up Little Man!; and Closer Productions’ My 52 Tuesdays project.

I look forward to engaging the creative pulse of a country that occupies a globally important position of advancing cinematic innovation at the crossroads of art/film/technology.”
The Adelaide Film Festival investment Fund has enabled a number of major Australian artists to present innovative and bold art and the moving image projects in collaboration with Samstag Museum and Art Gallery of South Australia. Previous commissions include work from Lynette Wallworth, Warwick Thornton and Daniel Crooks, which have been presented around Australia and internationally.
In 2015 the major commission will be from South Australian artist Hossein Valamanesh, which will premiere at Samstag Museum of Art, Uni SA in October 2015 and then travel to Carriageworks, Sydney and the Cultural Precinct, University of Western Australia.
Amanda Duthie said today: “AFF is proud to have enabled a range of distinctive Australian artists and projects to premiere at the Festival and in 2015 we are excited to take this work on a national tour. The chance to work with the amazing Shari Frilot and New Frontier for international presentation of this work is a great opportunity for Australian artists and filmmakers.”
New Frontier and Adelaide Film Festival will be looking for new projects from Australian artists and filmmakers. They are keen to learn of potential projects for this partnership and will be meeting with key creatives at NET-WORK-PLAY in Adelaide from February 23 till 25, 2015.

Australian artist, and 2014 David and Joan Williams Documentary Fellowship recipient, a regular advisor at the New Frontier Labs and director of AACTA award winning Hive film, Tender, Lynette Wallworth will join Shari Frilot on stage at NET-WORK-PLAY to discuss the New Frontier initiative, and how it develops ground breaking work.
