A fractured family reunites, unravelling secrets in an unforgettable, Berlinale award-winning drama.

Winner of multiple awards at the Berlinale, including the Silver Berlin Bear for Best Screenplay, Dying is a poignant portrayal of modern relationships. Directed by Matthias Glasner, the film delves deep into the fractured dynamics of the Lunies family, who must reconnect after years of estrangement.

Tom, a conductor, is working on a new piece titled Dying with his best friend Bernard, who is struggling with depression. At the same time, Tom’s ex-girlfriend wants him to step in as a parent to her child, even though the child isn’t his. Meanwhile, his sister Ellen battles alcoholism and starts a chaotic affair with a colleague, leading to an explosive family reunion.

Lars Eidinger, known for Personal Shopper and Clouds of Sils Maria, delivers a tour de force performance as Tom, with Lilith Stangenberg electrifying the screen as Ellen. Dying masterfully balances humour and sadness, leaving a lasting impression on audiences that will spark meaningful conversations about what it is to be a family.

“The biggest conductor meltdown since Cate Blanchett’s Tár … terrifically watchable and entertaining."

The Guardian

“Manages to be exceedingly funny, often in some of its darkest moments, as well as expectedly sad.”
