Following a breakup, artist Lena is commissioned to decorate a hotel in the forest and finds her way through personal darkness.

The first feature film from director Sarra Tsorakidis is a mesmerising debut which follows artist Lena (Ilinca Hărnuț) as she recovers from a difficult break up. Trying to rediscover her sense of self and artistic voice, she accepts a commission to paint murals during the refurbishment of a luxury brutalist hotel in the Romanian woods.

Taking refuge in her work, Lena is surrounded by forests and nature. Initially fearing her feelings, and what’s to come, she leans in and begins to see a new approach to being in this world where — regardless of what is said — no one truly knows what they’re doing. But a dark night of the soul, like everything else in life, can be received as a gift. Plus, if your eyes are open, there are new adventures and people to discover around every bend.

"Sarra Tsorakidis has tapped into the zeitgeist with her devastating debut...Ink Wash feels like a hybrid of early Romanian New Wave with a fresh vision of what contemporary cinema from the country can be."
