Created with a quiet sense of introspection despite its setting in the maw of chaotic Mumbai, Lovers in the Blue Night focuses on people who dare to desire in a world that punishes feelings.

Central to the story are Karim and Ameena; married through Karim's pity for Ameena when her village is swallowed by floods. Residing in a shanty, the passionless couple eke out a living as best they can. Karim is quietly gay, while Ameena clings to anonymous letters promising the tenderness life has denied her.

When Karim finds his forbidden desire in Sukka, a thief desperate to rise above the weight of caste, Ameena mistakes the bar's pimp, Omran, for her secret letter-writer and begins to fall for him. Love, illusion and survival collide as all four are forced to reckon with the cost of wanting more than mere survival.
