Longing for some Tuscan sun? Then join Marco (Rome-based Australian star Marcus J. Cotterell, who is fluent in Italian), a ruggedly handsome lecturer in art history at a Roman college.
When he’s placed on leave following a tragic incident, he picks up the pieces of his shattered heart, jumps in a borrowed Fiat and follows the ancient city’s lifeblood, the Tiber River. Far from the madding crowd, across the astonishing countryside towards Tuscany and his young daughter, Lucia (played by Marcus J. Cotterell’s daughter Uma Cotterell) from whom he has been estranged following the breakdown of his relationship with her mother Julia (Tamara Godivier).
Is it too late for them to reconnect? Or is there room for hope in this jaw-droppingly beautiful and poignant father-daughter road trip movie from Australian filmmaker Dominic Allen?
One of five local films selected for our celebrated AFF Goes to Cannes initiative, it’s full of breath-taking imagery captured by cinematographer Joel Betts and set to a lilting score by Rose Riebl. Bring tissues!
